GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Gainesville Police Department officers are working to determine if a deadly stabbing in a Gainesville neighborhood on Tuesday was an act of self-defense.

Officers say it happened just after 10 a.m. at a home on Southwest 26th Drive. Two men got into a fight which ended in one of the men being stabbed in the chest.

When emergency crews arrived, emergency crews performed CPR on the stabbing victim. The man was taken to UF Health Shands where he died.

The other man suspected of committing the stabbing was questioned and released. Officers are working to determine if the killing is a case of self-defense.

“We are questioning one person right now in connection to the stabbing,” said David Chudzik, public information officer. “We believe it’s the person that stabbed the victim, and we’re still just waiting to find out what the motive is and doing our investigation.”

Forensics was called to the scene to investigate. Gainesville Fire Rescue crews also responded.
